The Big Sky's expansion announcement takes effect July 1, 2026, and includes softball among the sports joining for the 2026–27 academic year. Southern Utah and Utah Tech therefore belong in the new-season conversation. A WAC matchup from spring 2026 does not describe where those schools compete in spring 2027.

Idaho State hosted the May 4–7, 2026 tournament in Pocatello, with all six then-competing Big Sky softball teams in a double-elimination bracket. The champion earned the NCAA automatic berth. These are last season's arrangements, not a confirmed field size, host or set of dates for 2027.
