The West Coast Conference approved a softball championship beginning in the 2026–27 academic year. Its announced format is a four-team, double-elimination tournament at a predetermined campus site. Older explanations of how the WCC chose its NCAA qualifier should not be reused without accounting for this new event.

The conference calendar places the event at San Diego's Reggie Smith Softball Complex, May 13–15, 2027. The host is predetermined, rather than assigned automatically to the regular-season leader. That distinction helps fans plan the destination while waiting for the actual seeds and matchups.

The approved event runs Thursday through Saturday before NCAA selection. Four teams will play for the conference's automatic qualification, but that does not identify who will advance in 2027.
